Understanding Intersectionality Conference

May 2 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

It seems like we are more divided than ever along lines of identity in these times of political and cultural turmoil. This training will navigate Intersectionality to understand the interconnection of social categorizations such as race, class, gender and sexuality.  How our experiences are shaped by these categorizations and how they intersect. People can have multiple social identities that overlap and intersect with each other creating unique experiences that cannot be understood separately.

In this session participants will enrich their comprehension of identity, power, and social justice in society.  They will have an opportunity to develop their own social identity portrait and determine how their experiences intersecting with all their identities have helped to form their identity today and their capacity to bridge differences and enhance their interconnections in general with people and society. We will have speakers in each of the languages to share their stories and experiences.  Additionally, we will explore how young children develop multiple identities at once, using examples and addressing participant questions. Gaining insight into your own identity and its impact on your work can foster more genuine relationships with children and families.

This conference will be offered in English, Spanish, Chinese
