PLC on MATH PLAY: NUMBER SENSE & PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY

April 23 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Description:

In this two-part series for family childcare educators and center-based teachers, we will explore math learning in the early years, build math into the daily routine, and use unusual materials for math activities. Our focus will be on number sense, including counting, adding, and subtracting. Through hands-on experience, small group reflection, and group activities, we will focus on how educators facilitate math learning for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Together we will:

  • Learn about children’s mathematical development from infancy through the preschool years, especially number sense: counting, adding, and subtracting.
  • Use unusual materials to create number play opportunities and provocations.
  • Uncover math and math opportunities – in everyday play and routines.
  • Develop ideas for deepening children’s math thinking.
  • To use the DRDP 2015 math measures: Number Sense: Counting and Number Sense Operations.
