Demystifying Anti-Bias for Families and Staff
What do families hear, see, feel, and read that reflects your program’s philosophy, mission, and goals? Do they see themselves and their children reflected in the center? This series will focus on helping programs to exam how their environment communicates their program’s philosophy, mission, and goals with staff, parents, and their community. What do parents and caregivers bring to the classroom and what can they teach us and other parents about their lived experiences? Through live panels of parents/caregivers from different identity groups, participants will learn about the joys, challenges, and expectations families have for their children in our care.
Session 1-4
In each session, we will introduce one of the four ABE goals and ways to engage with each other and parents respectfully. Panelists will reflect on the joys and challenges of raising their children in schools and in their communities. They will also reflect on the ABE goal that we are discussing and speak to how they address the goal in their families. Lastly, the panelist will share what they want their child’s educator to do to support their children. Participants can ask the panel questions. We will then go into breakout groups and reflect on our responsibility to all families and come up with ways to foster a sense of belonging for all our families. These will be charted and shared in all three languages, noting similar things that come up between the groups and those that are unique to a specific group.
Sessions will be offered in English, Spanish and Chinese
