\nAs educators we are given a superpower: with our words, our songs, our
\nstories, and our genuine interest in children, we can support children\u2019s
\ninnate ability to develop complex language. And, as we slowly introduce
\nthe children to the world of print, we launch them into their first steps
\nto understand how print can memorialize their words and the words of
\nothers. Come join us in transforming our classrooms in language rich environments, where all
\nlanguages are celebrated, and where children are given many opportunities to explore ways to
\nuse language to understand and \u201cread\u201d the world. Come share with others how you form
\npartnerships with families, so they too become<\/p>\n
Together we will:
\n\u25cf Learn about the process of language acquisition.
\n\u25cf Discover developmentally appropriate ways to encourage literacy practices.
\n\u25cf Share strategies to support oral language development with infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
\n\u25cf Study examples of strategies for literacy development at home \u2013 if you are teaching virtually.
\n\u25cf Discuss ways to engage children in meaningful conversations.
\n\u25cf Talk about the relationship between play and learning.
\n\u25cf Consider our own use of language and its impact on children.
\n\u25cf Uncover innovative ways to support literacy development in ECE environments.
\n\u25cf Review current ECE tools (such as CA Foundations, DRDP, the CA Curriculum Framework, CLASS etc.)
\nas they relate to language and literacy in the early years.
\n\u25cf Brainstorm strategies to engage families in supporting language and literacy at home.
\n\u25cf Participate in Professional Learning Communities, where you will learn from other educators, and
\nstudy documentation from different classrooms.
\n\u25cf Choose wonderful books for your classroom.
\n\u25cf Participate in a end of the year celebration, with great food, prizes and sharing of documentation.<\/p>\n
How will this work?
\n\u25cf Who attends: all members of a teaching team and at least one administrator who can support
\nimplementation. Center based AND Family Child Care educators will be working together!<\/p>\n
\u25cf REQUIREMENTS:
\no Actively participate in 3 workshops of 3 hours each (Fall of 2023) (Calendar below)
\no Engage in 3 Communities of practice of 1.5 hours each once a month.<\/p>\n
\u25cf WORK WITH A COACH: Your teams will also receive coaching sessions, tailored to your needs.<\/p>\n
